new chapter

Yesterday was Christmas.
I planned to post, but you know sometimes it's important to just be.
To soak it all in.
We have a lot of new going on here at the Alsey household.
We closed on our house last week.
We bought a car on Friday night.
We got the keys to the house early Saturday morning.
We shipped the kids off to Aunt Jan's.
(Thank you, thank you, thank you Aunt Jan.)
They were busy having a blast playing while we started renovating.
The goal was to get the living room, dining area, and hallway painted.

Swiss coffee.
Aka really great clean but creamy white.
And no, not all whites are made equal.
Stick that in your back pocket.
We painted until 2 am.
That's approximately 4 hours past my bedtime for those of you that care.
I was tired.
D was tired.
Here's a couple of befores

We made great progress, but we had a few stumbling blocks along the way.
The beams on the ceiling were eating the white paint like it was peppermint bark.
And unfortunately we were left with a coffeemate-ish cream instead of white.
(I told you there was more than one shade of white!)
D is currently working on adding a coat of shellac to seal the beams so they stop eating the paint.
We worked on second coats the next day until the kiddos returned.
Here's where we ended after that night/morning of work

Then Christmas prep began.
I'll (someday) load those pics off the camera.
Right now though...I'm packing.
And taking down Christmas decorations.
And being mama of two little ones.
Because on Saturday (1.5 days from now) we're moving.
Hopefully for the last time for at least a couple of years.
